I am a wedding photographer based in Fresno, CA. For the past 3 years I have been capturing adventurous love stories and helping others feel loved and supported throughout their wedding experience. If there isn't a camera in my hand, you would find me watching Friends or The Office, eating Chick-fil-A, and hanging our with my hubby and puppy.
I am one anxious person when it comes to big events, and planning a wedding for a year and a half had built up the anticipation even more. I felt like I couldn’t sleep much at night and during the day I would constantly be visualizing what would happen on the wedding day. Things that could go wrong or even things that could go right! I was thinking about EVERYTHING! What if I tripped down the aisle?! Or what if my dress ripped?! There were a lot of scenarios running around in my head. One week out from the wedding, I knew I needed to not focus my attention on the wedding, but distract myself.
Here are some things that helped my anxious thoughts throughout the week before my wedding:
Treat yo self! I decided to treat myself with something I love EVERYDAY!! I had a lot of strawberry acais and Chick-fil-A that week! That made me feel happy and helped take the focus off the wedding because I was doing something that I could control.
Make plans with friends. Thank the Lord for my roommate Kira because she kept my mind busy! We’d plan a night to Dave and Busters and then another night at the movies. I had every night planned with company so I wouldn’t be alone with my racing thoughts.
Do activities with your hands. We played a lot of games! Video games, board games, card games! I’m a competitive person and when my mind is set on winning, then it’s not thinking about what might happen at the wedding.
Talk, talk, and talk some more. Conversations were endless for me! My friends and family did a GREAT job of talking to me about random things and focusing my attention on them and not wedding details. If I’m talking, then I’m not thinking! Praying helps too!
The night before and the morning of the wedding, BRING GAMES, MUSIC, and MOVIES! Seriously, I can not express this one enough because the night before, my nerves were through the roof! My friends brought Code Names and we played this until I got tired enough to fall asleep. And of course, I woke up early the next day, but we were ready with music and more games! No time to worry about the wedding when I’m trying to win the game!
I hope these tips help ease your anxiety the week leading up to your wedding! Schedule, organize, and stop worrying! Give that worry to someone else and they can handle it. This week is all about relaxing and doing what you love the most! Also, I’m not opposed to exercising because this helps a lot too! And by all means, take your girls with you to get a mani-pedi!!
I became less anxious when I saw Bryce for our first look! The rest of the day was smooth sailing! I hope the same goes for you too!
